Thoughtful

The hope is that Candor elevates our culture’s awareness of and delight in what has been, is, or would be good, true and beautiful for the Wichita metro. We want to honor thinkers who understand that issues in the news often have considerable complexity and subtlety that go unreported, thinkers who are not easily swayed by inflammatory pleas or slick presentation, thinkers who have taken the time to ponder and weigh, who have minimized restraints on their fair-mindedness and scholarship, who have tried to set aside mere personal promotion.

Independent

Candor welcomes the thoughts of all citizens, regardless of their position along an ideological spectrum or their political party affiliation.  We pledge an editing process that discriminates only on the basis of merit: think soundly, write clearly, get the facts straight, avoid degrading vocabulary/syntax.

Local

Contributors to Candor must live or work within a 75-mile radius of Wichita.  Who knows what is best for south-central Kansans but those who live herein.  Our experiences, understanding, and insights are certainly sufficient to ensure meaningful reading.

What is The Candor Way?

Candor is a publication managed by Steve Witherspoon and Michael Witherspoon, first cousins and life-long Wichitans, who are co-editors responsible for making final decisions on content.

Authors have the opportunity to approve any significant edits made to their submissions before publication. Once published, submissions are archived in Candor indefinitely, but authors retain the right to use and publish their work elsewhere. Editors cannot use submissions without the author's written consent for purposes other than Candor publication.

Authors contributing to sections other than CandorLine may negotiate remuneration if their work is published, and they can include a brief bio and contact information with their submissions. Future sponsorships may lead to rewards for exceptional writing.
